eMi in Trinidad

On June 18, 2004, eMiCanada dispatched a team of 6 from varying parts of Canada, spanding all spectrum of age, race, profession and height but with one heart to serve, to the Republic of Trinidad. There they spent 10 days working along side InterSchool/InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, in developing a Master Plan for a new camp facility. I was blessed enough to be one of the 6 and this is an account of what God did in my life during those days.

Sight-seeing

During breakfast, I saw that woman I was talking to last night. She came up to me and gave me a tiny bottle of Swedish bitter. When I was talking to her last night, I was scratching my bug bites the whole time. She told me that if I rub some of that bitter on my bites, it would relieve the itching. I was touched. A complete stranger cared for my pain and wanted to help. I put it on my bites right away, although throughout the day, in the back of my mind, I was thinking if I should be taking weird medicine from strangers since the bottle actually had a Bacardi label on it. She said she just uses the bottle for refills when travelling. Hmmm. However, my itching did stop so it worked! Janice went crazy on it too, she practically poured that stuff on her bites.

Andre picked us up in his big van to take us to Fredrick Street to do some shopping. Fredrick St. is in Port of Spain and is the local shopping area. Andre's friend Reuel also came with us. Reuel is a draftsperson at one of Trinidad's biggest architecture firm. After some shopping, he took us around the city to show us the local architecture. He also took us to this park in the center of town that had armed guards standing everywhere.

After sight-seeing in Port of Spain, we met up with another guy named Richard who was going to take us to Maracas Bay to swim!! Of course it was raining on and off that day but we still went anyways. We met Richard at his church called 'Grace Gospel Chinese Christian Fellowship'!! haha, it's a CCF!! The drive to the beach was quite beautiful. The beaches were on the other side of the northern mountain range so we had to drive up along the mountains to get there. When we arrived at the beach, we went swimming! The waves were huge!! and the water was really warm but it was also very sandy and salty. Maracas Bay is not only famous for their beach but also for their shark meat! Reuel recommended shark at a place called 'Richard's Shark and Bake'. so after swimming, we all had shark n' bake. It was one of the most delicious thing I've ever eaten! The shark meat was deep fried placed between a baked bun. You could put a variety of toppins in it. Shark meat has a fish texture but it tastes like chicken, only better. After Maracas, Richard drove us to 'Las Curevas Bay' for more relaxin by the beach.

When we got back to Pax, we had a team closing meeting. It was another blessed opportunity to share our thoughts and feelings on this trip. Overall, everyone was extremely happy and satisfied with the work that we did and the things that we experienced. It's so awesome how God brought us together and we just got along and worked so well as a team.
